WHY

At BirdLand Theatre we are out for the new world. We move and change the order of the world to make the world we want to see. We want to create a world where creative living is the way to build a culture where everyone can achieve their beautiful potential. We believe in Theatre. We believe in Art. We believe in the power of the Stories. That is why we are making and telling them differently. Through art, we make the change. Our work takes chances and it is understood internationally. For us, Art is the way of living. As such Art ignites change in society and culture. We are pathfinders.

BirdLand Theatre is founded in 2002 by visionary Artistic Producer Zorana Kydd. Since then BirdLand Theatre never stopped growing and changing.

Welcome to BirdLand Theatre.

Our Story

Artistic Producer Dr. Zorana Kydd founded the not-for-profit BirdLand Theatre company in 2002, after completing her Doctoral Studies in Theatre at The University of Toronto at The Graduate Center for Study of Drama. Award-winning and internationally recognized productions of BirdLand Theatre are pushing the artistic limits and telling new, more inclusive stories expanding the boundaries of live theatre. Over the years, the company developed a body of work that created a community of uninhibited and impassioning artists that created incendiary and vital new work for the stage that is redefining the narratives for theatre in the 21st century. The company engaged emerging, established, and well-known Canadian and international artists across generations. BirdLand Theatre produced many Canadian premieres of award-winning playwrights and musical theatre artists. Successfully the company produced Off-Broadway in NYC and Europe.
